Experts criticize Wolff and Mercedes
Toto Wolff finds some of his colleagues “sneaky” and “pathetic” because they publicly denounce the FIA’s porpoising intervention. For these statements, the boss of the Mercedes team now has the wind in its sails from certain experts.
“If a team is not able to build a car that the driver can drive without pain, then it is not the FIA which is responsible, but the team”, explains for example Christian Danner to ‘Sport1’.
“You can tune a car like this and make it smoother. Then the car is unfortunately slower, but at least you can drive it,” Danner points out. Jacques Villeneuve, world champion of 1997, sees it in a very similar way.
In his column for ‘Formule1.nl’, he accuses Wolff of “campaigning” and writes: “In recent years they have always done everything to keep their lead. Now they have built a bad car. That’s their problem, not that from the FIA.”
“Other teams have also solved the problem. Why should they be penalized by a possible rule change?” Villeneuve said.
Masepin sues Haas
News from Nikita Masepin: After the Russian recently expressed his hope of returning to Formula 1 at some point, he has now said he will take his ex-employer Haas to court.
He told RBC Sport that the team still owes him money for the 2022 season. Incidentally, this has nothing to do with the sponsorship deal with Uralkali, which Haas also unilaterally terminated.
“They made two different decisions. I didn’t see my money, so now we’re going to court,” Masepin said. The last word of this story has not yet been pronounced…
Price for Michael Schumacher
Even long after his retirement from Formula 1, “Schumi” continues to receive awards. Now he will receive the state prize of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. “There are few people in Germany who have shaped an entire sport as much as Michael Schumacher has shaped racing,” Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst said.
Schumacher received the award “for his outstanding international sporting achievements as a world-class racing driver, in recognition of his exemplary social commitment and for his service to his home state of North Rhine-Westphalia,” said Wust.
The award ceremony will take place on July 20. Mrs. Corinna and her children Gina and Mick accept the award.
At the water
Already on Monday we reported that Alfa Romeo’s Xevi Pujolar ended up in a river in Montreal after losing a bet. Angela Cullen too!
Before the race, she had promised that she would jump in the water if Hamilton made it to the podium. And that’s how it happened, as you know.
You can find out here who the woman really is alongside the world record champion!
Williams relies on updates
Currently the FW44 is not good enough for points. Only in Melbourne and Miami did Albon (surprisingly) break into the top 10. His teammate Latifi is even completely without points in 2022.
In Canada, Albon finished 13th and said he couldn’t have done better. The hope is now on the home race at Silverstone, where there should be a major update.
“Everyone had upgrades, but we haven’t had any for a long time,” Albon recalls and explains, “Hopefully we can [in Silverstone] see how our updates work.”
It is currently uncertain whether they will be ready in time.
Ecclestone doesn’t believe in Ferrari
Has the Ferrari World Cup train already left after the troubles of the past few weeks? In any case, the former boss of Formula 1 Bernie Ecclestone no longer gives the Scuderia any chance.
He reveals to ‘Blick’: “I was hoping with a lot of people that Ferrari would start again after more than 14 years. Unfortunately, I have to say that anyone who continues to bet on Ferrari or Leclerc will get nothing!”
“Errors creep in again at Ferrari, reliability is often reminiscent of the old days and the drivers themselves are not always confident on the road”, he criticizes and explains that Red Bull currently has a “game easy”.
Ferrari are 76 points behind the Bulls in the World Cup, while Leclerc is 49 points behind Verstappen among the drivers.
Piastri before the debut of FT1 in France
Because today we are dealing with young drivers: Oscar Piastri is about to make his first appearance in FT1 with Alpine. According to our information, he will be at the home game of the Alps in France in July.
Otmar Szafnauer is only officially confirming that Piastri’s debut should happen ‘soon’. “We can reveal it won’t be at Silverstone,” said the team boss.
The after race at Spielberg can also be ruled out, as it is a sprint weekend and there is only one practice session before qualifying.
An overview of all this year’s Friday pilots can be found here!
By the way, the excuses of the young driver were not long in coming. On Instagram, he wrote, “The language is completely unacceptable and does not reflect my values and principles.”
“I deeply regret my actions,” said Vips, who announced, “I will cooperate fully with the investigation.” The 21-year-old made his Formula 1 debut at Barcelona when he was cleared to drive FT1 for Red Bull.
Further deployments are not expected at this time.
Red Bull suspends young drivers
Bad news for all Jüri Vips fans: the Red Bull junior didn’t just crash while leading the last Formula 2 race in Baku. To make matters worse, he has just been suspended from Red Bull!
However, the background is not his sports performance but a game stream in which Vips used a racist word. Red Bull then issued a statement on Tuesday evening announcing the suspension.
A “full investigation” has been announced, he said. They have a “zero tolerance policy” about racism, according to cops. So it’s initially unclear how things will continue with Vips.
