In the end, there were still no points for Mick Schumacher in Canada. It looked so good after qualifying on Saturday: Schumacher started on Sunday from the third row in sixth place. Best career for the 23-year-old. In addition, a good size for the next step: the first world championship points of his career.
Schumacher absent on lap 20 – Haas leaves empty-handed despite good qualifying
But again nothing works: On lap 20, Schumacher surprisingly had to steer his car into the run-off zone. Part of the generators (i.e. the engine) had probably failed and made it impossible to continue the race. “We had to stop the car because otherwise others would have broken down”, explained the German after the end of the race.

Particularly annoying for the son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, “because we had the pace to score points”. In fact, Schumacher was in seventh place when he was suddenly knocked out. “I think today would have been the day,” he said annoyed at the missed opportunity afterwards.
The situation was similar for Schumacher’s teammate Magnussen. Although he started next to Schumacher, he couldn’t score any points either. Already on the first lap he crashed between himself and Lewis Hamilton. Race organizers sentenced Magnussen to a pit stop because part of his car was loose and endangering other drivers. In the end, the Dane was the last driver to cross the finish line.
Schumacher’s huge crash costs: Haas boss Steiner has had enough
Although Schumacher made no driving mistakes this time around, there was still no opportunity for him to shine. Due to his numerous and costly accidents and damage to the car, he has been under pressure for quite some time.
The Dutch F1 website “F1 maximaal” calculated last year that no other driver had caused as much damage per accident in 2021 as him. According to this, Schumacher’s accidents cost the Haas team around 4,212,500 euros last year.

As “tz” now reports, Haas team boss Günther Steiner has had enough since the beginning of July. As a result, he wanted to remove the German driver from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix driver list. However, Ferrari had vetoed it.
Mick Schumacher before change, successor to Sebastian Vettel?
The “Scuderia” is authorized to nominate one of the two Haas drivers each year and continues to insist on young hopeful Mick Schumacher. However, Ferrari are unlikely to have a free car for the 23-year-old at this time.
The Italians could also force Haas over Schuhmacher in the coming year. After all, Steiner recently went public that the alleged dispute between him and his pilot was “inflated” from the outside. “We are just laughing about it now,” he told “auto motor und sport”.

In view of the difficult vehicle and the recent increase in technical problems, a change would also make sense for Mick Schumacher. According to the media, he is an option for Aston Martin. The British therefore want to develop in the German market. If Vettel withdraws at the end of the year, Schuhmacher could inherit it. Ideally, he will have already scored his first points in the league.
