BMW M 3.0 CSL: Tightened M4 with a retro touch

BMW M 3.0 CSL: Tightened M4 with a retro touch

BMW announces another exclusive special model for the M anniversary. The new CSL is based on the M4 CSL and is formally based on the 2015 3.0 CSL Hommage concept car.

For many fans, the BMW 3.0 CSL – nicknamed the Batmobile – is one of the Bavarian brand’s design icons. In 2015, BMW honored the legendary lightweight BMW with the 3.0 CSL Hommage concept car. For the 50th anniversary of M GmbH, there seems to be a legitimate successor to the 3.0 CSL. In a small series of 50 units based on the new M4 CSL and at an absolutely exclusive price.

New front, new rear

BMW M boss Franciscus van Meel provided a first taste with three teaser images via his Instagram account. Our photographer from Erlkönig was also able to photograph the model. The pictures show a completely redesigned BMW M4 CSL in camouflage look front and rear. Compared to the M4 CSL, the kidneys have further narrowed considerably, are classically barred and give way to new air intakes in the lower part of the apron, which are flanked by two round air ducts on the left and right. The hood without deep depressions now extends to the upper edge of the kidneys. The front spoiler lip does without additional fins.

The rear view also has a completely independent appearance. A spoiler sits above the rear edge of the roof, while another powerful air deflector sits on the trunk lid. Both hints at the original 3.0 CSL. The tailgate, meanwhile, has been completely redesigned. The license plate descends into the apron, which frames the four tailpipes with a newly designed diffuser element.

Manual transmission and rear wheel drive

Exhaust continues to swirl from a twin-turbocharged three-litre straight-six. With what performance the departure remains completely open. You should actually expect a power boost from such a special model – more than the 550hp and 650Nm of the M4 CSL. On the other hand, the 6MT FTW inscription on the rear indicates a six-speed six-speed manual transmission. Here, its torque strength should set the limit and actually prohibit a further increase in performance. We also expect pure rear-wheel drive in the new CSL Special. Also fits the historical model better. The letters “I donut care” and “Drift happenings” also go in this direction.

The new BMW 3.0 CSL will certainly not come cheap. The first estimates range between 600,000 and 750,000 euros per copy. Nevertheless, collector’s items should find their buyers. After all, the M4 CSL, which costs 165,200 euros and is limited to 1,000 copies, is already completely taken.

Yes, for me, value and pleasure go hand in hand.
