Four prominent speakers, led by Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher, will deliver mourning speeches during the farewell to footballing legend Uwe Seeler at the Volksparkstadion. Bernd Neuendorf, President of the German Football Association (DFB), HSV sporting director Jonas Boldt and actor Olli “Dittsche” Dittrich, HSV fan and friend of the Seeler family, will also speak at the ceremony. ‘one o’clock.

Scholz and Tschentscher among the guests

About a thousand guests are invited to the funeral service, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). “With Uwe Seeler, there is a legend is dead. Since the former centre-forward received honorary citizenship from his hometown in 2003, a funeral service at the Michel in Hamburg would have been possible at the request of the family. Other accolades for “Us Uwe” are already in the works. HSV investor Klaus-Michael Kühne, who currently owns the naming rights to the Volksparkstadion, has already considered renaming it to Uwe-Seeler-Stadion.

HVV tips to get there

Of the HVV recommends alternative routes to Volksparkstadion, as due to construction work between Altona and Elbgaustrasse, buses are currently running instead of S-Bahn trains. Shuttles to the arena are provided from Hagenbecks Tierpark underground station and from Othmarschen S-Bahn station.
